QTBIPOC Action Camp

Interested in kayaking? Interested in political art? Interested in meeting and organizing with other really rad people?

Mosquito Fleet is hosting a two-day Action and Arts Camp for Queer and Trans Black and Brown folk! During this camp. we'll learn kayaking, art, and organizing skills and grow a QTBIPOC community centered around water justice and collective liberation. Save the date for Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, and be on the lookout for a follow-up email regarding your registration status and any additional info to prepare for the program.

Registration closes April 20, 2025! Space is limited so we might not be able to accommodate all registrants, but there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the summer!


Camp Details

Who is this for?: Black and Brown Queer and Trans Adults (18+)

What is this?: A camp where participants will learn kayaking skills, make political art, and build community with other really rad folks

When will it be?: All day on Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, 2025

Where will it be?: Green Anchors, 8940 N Bradford St. Portland, OR

Why are we doing this?: To grow a QTBIPOC community centered around water justice and collective liberation

Halloween Cleanup on the Columbia Slough

Join Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Mosquito Fleet for a Halloween themed on-water cleanup! Participants can bring their own boat, or reserve a seat in one of ours. This is for people 14 and older, minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting There: We will meet at the corner of NE Alderwood & NE Glassplant (map). Parking is available along the shoulder of NE Glassplant Rd. Taking public transportation? Bus #87 makes the closest stop to the area by dropping riders off at NE 105th & Simpson, a 0.2 mile walk.

What to bring: Pack along water and come prepared for the weather and plan to get dirty! Muck boots are a great idea if possible. And in the spirit of Halloween… come in costume! Columbia Slough Watershed Council will have trash bags, trash pickers, work gloves, as well as snacks and cold drinks to share. 

Accessibility: This event requires participants to navigate uneven/gravel terrain from the parking area to the launch. This is a relatively short distance, and support will be provided by all event leaders to get everyone and their boats to the water. A port potty will be available. Previous paddling experience is not required.

Birding Paddle with Birdhers

This event is FULL! Stay tuned for another birding paddle date soon.

What: Join Birdhers and Mosquito Fleet for a bird watching paddle! Participants can bring their own boat, or reserve one of ours. This event is an affinity space for women, non-binary and trans people.

When: Sunday, October 22nd from 1-4pm

Where: We will meet at Kelley Point Park (map). Ample parking is available. Taking public transportation? Bus #11 makes the closest stop to the area by dropping riders off at N Marine & Leadbetter, a 1 mile walk to the Kelley Point Park parking lot. We will be paddling from Kelley Point Park to Wapato (Sauvie) Island.

What to bring: Pack along water and come prepared for the weather! In addition to providing kayaks and gear for those who register, Mosquito Fleet will have snacks and cold drinks to share. 

Accessibility: This paddle is for folks 14 and older (minors must be accompanied by an adult) who have previous kayaking experience. There are public bathrooms available at Kelley Point Park, but not on Wapato Island. This event requires participants to navigate uneven/gravel terrain from the parking area to the launch. The paddle from Kelley Point Park to Wapato Island, while a relatively short distance, requires some kayaking experience. Mosquito Fleet will have two safety paddlers participating. Previous paddling experience recommended!
