ACCESSIBILITY

Mosquito Fleet aims to be an on-ramp (literally and figuratively) to the Willamette River. We want people of all abilities and identities to connect and build relationships on and around the water, and to inspire the creation of safe, inclusive, and equitable communities. We acknowledge that historically (and currently) many folks have been excluded from on-water activities, outdoor spaces and direct action organizing. We strive to work against societal norms that prevent members of our community from engaging with our work. We have learned and continue to learn from disability justice movement leaders including HEARD, PeoplesHub and Sins Invalid.

Mosquito Fleet is a part of the Green Anchors community in St. John’s, just north of Cathedral Park on the eastern banks of the Willamette River. Green Anchors is a self-sufficient, mostly off grid community of community organizations, artists and builders. The terrain is uneven in many places (bumpy asphalt, wood chips) and not easily wheelchair accessible. Gender neutral bathrooms, showers and tap water are all available for use and accessible via stairs OR a pathway covered in wood chips and a ramp.

Attending Fleet Events at Green Anchors

For Mosquito Fleet events, participants are welcome to park in the Cathedral Park boat ramp parking lot next door (parking is ample and free), and then walk to our location. The map below provides a visual with walking directions from the parking lot to Fleet headquarters. Our driveway offers limited parking (approximately 4 cars) and is reserved for folks who need it. Trimet bus 11 and 16 stop close by, about 0.4 miles away. The walk from the bus stop to Green Anchors is down hill.

Kayak Lending Library

Our kayak lending library trailer is accessible by stairs. For kayak lending library members - the Fleet team can be available to assist folks in gearing up and transporting boats to the river - just ask us! We always ask folks using the kayak lending library to paddle with a buddy (or more than one buddy). Kayaks can be heavy, and often require at least two folks to move on land. We also provide 2 kayak trolleys, like the one pictured to the left.

Our community art workshops take place in our second container, accessible by stairs. Well fitted masks are required for indoor events. Weather permitting, we will utilize outside space to host art workshops as well, which is accessible via our driveway and no stairs.

To provide accessibility related feedback, please email Kelsey at kelsey@mosquitofleet.us. We hope to improve accessibility at Green Anchors as we deepen our own understanding of creating accessibility and dismantling ableism in all of its manifestations, and hope that you approach accessibility with the same intention!
